PUSH ACCESSIBILITY
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions.
Our current venue is at The Fruit and Club Era, 305 S, Dillard Street, Durham, NC 27701. The venue is accessible by public transportation, with a a bus stop about two blocks away.
Mobile Accessibility: While the venue does not have any parking, there is parking off site, within a half a block, including disabled parking. There are two parking garages, one 1/2 block north of the venue on the same side of Dillard Street, and one at 464 East Pettigrew Street, about 1/2 block south of the venue. The walk from either parking garage to the venue is solid ground with some areas of broken sidewalk. There is a ramp to access the main area of the venue. The night entrance has 2 steps, so security is instructed to allow people with mobility issues access to the ramp. Please approach them to request access (they will help you check in and then give you access to the ramp). The venue itself has 2 levels, the top level with the 2 main play areas, vendors fair, performances, dance area, and littles and pets play area is accessible by wheelchair. The lower level that hosts half of the classes, lounge space, and several playrooms is not accessible by wheelchair. All of the classes in the lower level will be streamed to an accessible room. The lower level has 2 sets of stairs, one of which is steep and not well lit and a second set that is well lit and wide enough for 2-3 people. The tent outside is accessible by one short set of stairs, and also can be accessed by wheelchair from the sidewalk area (our staff will be available to help anybody in a wheelchair get to the tent).
Lighting, Acoustics, Service Animals: Well-lit during the day event, dim lighting in the evening. DJs are present during the evening, though sound levels are checked to ensure safe play. Due to music in closed spaces, sound processing challenges will be exacerbated. Service animals are welcome, though crowding may make it difficult to navigate (if you have any problems navigating the space with your service animal, please ask our staff to help). On the lower level and in the tent outside, the music is kept down for those with sound sensitivities (though the lower level is not accessible by wheelchair).
Dietary Needs: Food is not included, though it is for sale. Both alcoholic and non-alcholic beverages are for sale.
Allergies & Environment: We do not control who wears scents. Smoking is allowed only in a smoking area outside. Smoking and vaping are not allowed indoors.
Social Concerns/Anxiety: From noon to 9PM, the crowd is more dispersed than at the nighttime event. The play party from 9pm - 2 am can be crowded and difficult to navigate if somebody has anxiety regarding crowds. There are multiple lounge spaces upstairs and downstairs, though they do get crowded. There is an outside tented play area that is quiet and less crowded.
Medical issues: PUSH has a trained and certified medical team on site for any medical issues, including anxiety and mental health issues.
